WINSLOW, Ariz. — The Winslow Arts Council is gearing up for its Second Annual Winslow Arts Festival, set to take place on April 25 at the Route 66 Plaza in Winslow, Arizona. The event will run from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and will feature live entertainment and a diverse collection of artists showcasing their work.
But there’s more to the festival than just a celebration of art. The Winslow Arts Council has been given the opportunity to participate in a research study called Arts & Economic Prosperity 6, which is being conducted by Americans for the Arts in partnership with the Arizona Commission on the Arts. The study is an economic impact study of the nation’s nonprofit arts and culture industry and aims to capture data about what kinds of dollars are being spent at and around arts and culture events, as well as some demographic information about attendees. The results of this study will contribute to a more accurate picture of economic impact not only statewide, but also nationwide, and will ultimately go on to be a powerful lobbying tool for a deeper investment in public arts funding.
Visitors to the Winslow Arts Festival can participate in this survey by completing a survey at the State of The Arts Commission Booth. Jessica Lewis, Recreation Supervisor of the Winslow Arts Council, hopes to receive at least 50 submissions on the day but will accept more. The results of the survey will impact the Winslow Arts Council and community by opening up opportunities for grants and economic development of the arts in Winslow.
Lewis is also excited for the arrival of new artists at this year’s festival. “I have had many new artists sign up for this year’s WAF, we have artist from all over the 4 corners region!” she said. The event is free to the public, and artist vendor fee is $40.00. The Winslow Arts Council is still looking for entertainment and artists, and those interested can email winslowartscouncil@gmail.com.
